What Do I Want My Grandkids To Know?

Family
There are so many things that I wanted to teach my own children and now so many more things that I would love to teach my grand kids.........first and foremost is the Word of God. I want them to know the Bible stories, the verses, the promises of God and about God's gift of salvation. I can do this by reading together and having devotions, it doesn't have to take an hour but even if just 5 to 10 minutes each time we are together would make a huge impact on their young lives.

The songs I learned in Sunday School are not only fun to do but teach the great principles of God's Word and a great way to teach music too. There is so much in our libraries, bookstores and the Internet to make the Bible fun and easy to learn, what a wonderful opportunity!

One of the songs that I am teaching my little one's is "I'm In The Lord's Army!" It goes like this.....

I'm In The Lord's Army Sung to the tune of "The Ol' Gray Mare," it goes like this:

I may never march in the infantry,
Ride in the cavalry,
Shoot the artillery.
I may never zoom o'er the enemy,
But I'm in the Lord's army. Yes, sir!

I'm in the Lord's army. Yes, sir!
I'm in the Lord's army. Yes, sir!

I may never march in the infantry,
Ride in the cavalry,
Shoot the artillery.
I may never zoom o'er the enemy,
But I'm in the Lord's army. Yes, sir!

Actions:
* "march" -- march in place
* "ride" -- gallop like a horse
* "shoot" -- clap, then slide one hand forward and one back
* "fly" -- spread arms and zoom like airplane
* "I'm in" -- point to self
* "Lord's" -- point up
* "Yes, sir!" -- stand at attention; salute

Then dress up in make believe cowboy boots, gun and hat talking with a southern draw and repeat - shooting from a holster and riding like a cowboy. Replace Yes, sir with Yahoo!

Then dress up quietly, ssshhhhooshing everyone because Indians are known for their stealth like capabilities and dress up in make believe moccasins, bow and arrow and feather on your head. You whisper the song while marching quietly and shooting the bow and arrow. Replace Yes, sir with the war sound made by Indians by tapping your mouth.

The Body of Christ is often referred to as "the Army of God." II Corinthians 10:3-5 reminds us that we are engaged in a spiritual war and if we "submit ourselves to God" we can resist the devil and he will flee from us (James 4:7).

This song was always one of my favorites. In fact, I wish the 'grown-up' church service would have it as a worship song occasionally - just to remind us of something very important:

We are in the Lord's Army!
